Services

Shari Black provides professional editorial services, which may include but are not limited to:

• Manuscript editing

• Developmental editing

• Line editing

• Copy editing

• Proofreading

• Editorial assessments

• Children’s book consulting

• Publishing guidance and feedback

 

All services are tailored to the individual project and agreed in writing before work begins.

Quotes and Payment

Projects are quoted individually based on length, complexity, and turnaround time.

​

A 50% deposit is required before work begins. Work will not commence until payment (or deposit, where agreed) has been received.

​

Final files may be withheld until full payment has been made.

​

Late payments may result in delays to delivery and/or additional charges.

​

Turnaround Times

Estimated delivery dates will be agreed before the project begins. These are based on the client providing all required materials on time.

​

Delays caused by late submissions, additional revisions, or significant changes to the original brief may affect delivery dates.

​

Revisions

Unless otherwise agreed, editorial services include one round of editorial feedback only.

​

Additional revisions, rewrites, or substantial new work may be charged separately.

​

Client Responsibility

Clients are responsible for ensuring they have the legal right to submit all materials provided for editing.

Clients retain responsibility for all final publishing decisions, including fact-checking, permissions, legal compliance, and final approval of content.

​

Confidentiality

All client work is treated as confidential and will not be shared with third parties unless required by law or with the client’s permission.

Intellectual Property

The client retains full ownership of their original work.

​

Editorial suggestions, reports, and feedback remain the intellectual property of Shari Black until full payment has been received.

Limitation of Liability

While every effort is made to provide high-quality editorial services, no guarantee is made regarding publication outcomes, sales success, agent representation, or commercial performance.

Liability is limited to the value of the service purchased.

​

Governing Law

These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

 

Delivery Policy

Delivery Method

All editorial services are delivered digitally via email unless otherwise agreed.

​

Files are returned in Microsoft Word format using Track Changes and/or as a written editorial report in PDF or Word format.

​

Delivery Timeframe

Delivery times vary depending on the scope of the project and will be confirmed at the time of booking.

​

Rush services may be available for an additional fee, subject to availability.

​

Delays

If unforeseen circumstances affect delivery, clients will be informed as soon as possible and a revised delivery date will be provided.

Refund & Cancellation Policy

Client Cancellations

If a client wishes to cancel a project, any deposit paid may be partially refundable at the discretion of Shari Black, depending on preparation already completed.

​

If work has already begun, refunds are generally not available for completed or partially completed work.

​

Editorial Nature of Services

Because editorial services are personalised and time-based, refunds are not offered once substantive work has commenced. This includes manuscript assessments, editing, proofreading, consultations, and bespoke editorial reports.

Rescheduling

If a client needs to postpone a booked project, reasonable efforts will be made to reschedule, subject to availability. This cannot be guaranteed.

​

Service Issues

If you are dissatisfied with the service provided, please make contact within 7 days of delivery so the issue can be reviewed fairly and professionally.

Reasonable corrections relating to agreed editorial scope may be offered where appropriate.

Cancellation by Shari Black

In the unlikely event that Shari Black must cancel a project before work begins, any payments made for unfinished work will be refunded in full.
